As of 2009, we have lost permission to fly at our primary field (VOA Park). We are currenly searching for a new home. If anyone has a lead on a suitable field, please contact one of the club officers.
We typically have two weekends each month like this, but check Schedule for the current dates. Flights are limited to 2,560 Newton-seconds total impulse (one K motor), are run under the NAR HPR Safety Code, and you must be a certified NAR, CAR or Tripoli member to fly high power at these events. We have a brand new twelve-pad launch controller and a decent selection of rods and rails, but check with us if you need something special.
We don't want to give you the impression we're all about high power, most of us are model and large model rocket (LMR) nuts. Model and LMR birds are always welcome at the VOA. On occasion, we run model and LMR only events on short notice, so watch the QUARKers Yahoo! Group and/or QUARK Forum for notifications and details. QUARK also typically runs four NAR-sanctioned competitions each year. Capricorn, held in April, is our scale meet and always contains at least one craftsmanship event, Lone Free Ranger, held in June, usually has an egg lofting event plus something that might be a recovery challenge. RocketFEST, held in August, is usually very newbie-friendly, offering events that can typically be handled by common sport models. The Flying Pig meet is held in October or November, and generally contains some challenging and unusual events ("flying pigs"). All our competitions are casual and very flyer-friendly, and usually run by a former national champion who is generous with tips and advice to newbies.
